Spotting

Okay so my period came on last month, but I had sex 2 days earlier and was waiting until this month to see if I was pregnant. My period is supposed to come on thursday, and i'm experiencing normal symptoms i usually experience a week before my period comes on like mood swings and cramps. Today I started spotting, which kind of threw me off. But I also went three rounds w my SO for his birthday today (hehehehe) so could that be what's causing the spotting?
