To buy a breast pump or to rent?! My hospital offers breast pump rentals for $75 a month, I'm torn between renting or purchasing my own! Help!

I voted for rent. But only because I think you should try to breast feed the first month to make sure it's what you and your baby want to do. I wouldn't make the investment of a breast pump if you're only going to use it for a month or less. If you plan on using it longer then that then I would say purchase one. It would be cheaper in the long run.

Just FYI- I'm a labor and delivery nurse and I can tell you for a fact, if you rent, your breast/milk will not touch anything another women's breast/milk has. The pump itself is the expensive part. Then there are parts that attach to your breast. The milk goes from the breast funnels right into a bottle so the milk never touches the pump or pump tubing. And the breast sheilds/bottles are plastic so you can buy and sanitize your own.

I say rent because hospital-grade ones are usually much nicer than ones you purchase for yourself

I'm due in June but my sister in law bought a medium priced pump and still ended up renting the hospital grade one. She said it was much more effective.

I loved the hospital one!! My home one I wouldn't get that much out of my breast. Most I got was 9oz out of one. The hospital one, 12oz out of one and 13oz out of the other. And it was so much faster!!

Some insurance companies will pay for or help pay for breast pumps...maybe you can utilize that if cost is an issue?
