Question

If you wanted to limit hospital visitors after the birth of your baby and you know a lot of people will take offense, what would you do:

1. Delay birth announcement: don't tell anyone but the people allowed to visit that you've given birth. Once you're home you announce the birth and allow visitors. People might be upset they didn't know when it happened but they'll get to visit right away from knowing.

2. Issue statement: tell people before or at birth that you've limited the amount of people that can visit you and that you'll allow visitors once you're home. They'll know about the birth when it happens but they'll be upset that they can't visit at the hospital.

Yea I know I can't please everyone and I have to do what's best for us but that doesn't stop me from being worried about other peoples feelings. My weakness lol

My L&D nurse suggested no visitors at the hospital because you're not going to be there long you're going to be exhausted you need time to get a little equipped with baby and all the passing around isn't good for the baby

It depends on whether or not it's family. If it were my family they'd be really hurt that I didn't tell them. Friends is another story. With family, I'd just tell them my wishes. They'll understand probably. If it's friends, I'd just delay.

Had I stayed in my home state I would've done the latter. I wasn't planning on telling anyone when I went into labor, would've had the baby, and then sent out a message when I felt up to it announcing the birth and telling people that visitors aren't acceptable at this time and that everyone will be contacted when they're able to visit. 
To me, the hospital is a very intimate time and should be used to spend time with just the baby. Its also a time for healing and recuperation. Its not a time for visitation and stressing the mom out. That being said, for those who choose to have visitors, more power to them.

I told everyone that I didn't want any visitors at the hospital except for my and my husbands parents, our grandparents, and our siblings. No one was offended. This time around we'll do the same thing.
