18 month old sleeping too much??

Kelsey

I know this seems like a dumb question right? My son is 18 months old and he never slept through the night until he was 12 months. Lately (as I'm the last 3 weeks or so) he has been sleeping from his bedtime at 7:30-8pm right through till 11am most mornings and then takes a 3 hour nap in the afternoon!!

Don't get me wrong I'm not complaining that he lets me sleep in when I want to but it just seems like a lot of sleeping for his age. When he is awake he is SUPER active and bright. He speaks, plays and practices his sign language. Learns new things daily and his motor skills are great. He eats like a horse and gives plenty of wet and poop diapers.

Just wondering if any moms out there are in the same boat? I thought maybe growth spurt since he is eating a lot too but I guess I just want so reassurance!

Thanks in advance!

My son was always a great sleeper and slept about this much at that age.

Absolutely! Doesn't sound like he's lethargic when he's awake or anything so I bet he just needs the sleep right now 🙂

Thank you! my guy hasn't always been a good sleeper but in the last 6 months he's been much more into it. I feel like he's just growing and getting the rest he needs. It's just nice to hear from other moms!

I'd definitely check in with his pediatrician. It could be a growth spurt, but it usually doesn't last 3 weeks.

Seems a bit much. How long has this been going on for?

I was going to say the exact same as the others, possible iron and growth spurts usually don't last 3 weeks. So I have nothing else lol. If you are worried talk to his doctor maybe.

just the last 3 weeks or so

It could be nothing, and you're just super lucky to get a sleeper! However, j would mention it to the ped just in case...iron deficiency can lead to more sleep, and can be very dangerous. It never hurts to mention it...hopefully it's nothing, though!

That's great news! Hopefully it just means he's a great sleeper!!

Thanks! He had his iron checked and was above normal in that department!
