Can you get baby to latch without help?

Question

So my baby wouldn't latch at the hospital. But I now pump and store the milk in the fridge. Pumping is sooo difficult and its hard to travel. I really want my baby to latch, I produce 10 oz with both boobs everytime I pump (20 oz in the AM) so I know I have the supply for her!! 
Can I try at home to get her to latch or should I go to my local WIC and get their help? I've been trying but she sucks for a little (like 20 seconds ) and makes a grossed out face and stops sucking

While it is possible to do on your own I would seek help of an IBCLC.

You can absolutely try at home. Just make sure you get baby to latch correctly. If it hurts, put your pinky on side of baby's mouth to get him to unlatch and try again.

Help would be brilliant, but if you want to try yourself, these tips from my local breastfeeding support team really helped me. The first one is positioning of baby, second is attachment, and then the third is a checklist to make sure you've got it right.

I would try on your own first if you haven't already and then seek out assistance from a lactation consultant if needed... I'm not familiar with WIC so I'm not sure what they do.

I actually used google it was one of the first articles I read and I had an "ah ha" moment like that's how it works lol my problem was that we weren't belly to belly and didn't see anything wrong then I understood that baby shouldn't have to turn his head to look at the boob he needs to be facing it and the wider the "gape" the better

Just a little update: I purchased a nipple shield and I now happily breastfeed 😊

Get some help. You have a few hurdles to get past and some help and support will help you both be successful. Your baby is now used to the ease of a bottle and whatever issues you had in the beginning are still going to be there.

A nipple guard might help. They should be at any Baby store really. My lactation consultant told me to squeeze my boob to get some milk flowing to try to Make it easier. My baby never latched though I tried EVERYTHING. But my supply was also not as awesome as yours!

It can be done at home my baby had to start with a nipple shield after a few rough days and a week later she latched by herself and still nurses now at 1.5 years old. I do think seeing a lactation consultant could have helped me a lot though making it a less stressful process. My friend saw one with her baby and she said it was great they helped a lot and put her at ease.
