9 days late, negative preg tests

My husband and I have been trying to conceive for over a year. My cycle for the last year or so has been fairly regular, but there have been times when it wasn't, so if I'm a few days late I normally wouldn't test. But this time around, when the time came, I totally felt like my period was coming for ~3 days. Cramps, bloating, etc. got that feeling that's hard to explain where you feel like when you run to the bathroom There Will Be Blood. But nothing. 

I had some pretty bad lower back pain five days ago, the cramps/bloating, and maybe some breast tenderness (but I think I might be overly sensitive to looking for it at this point). 

Three pregnancy tests have been negative. 

Just wondering if anyone else had a similar experience and still ended up being pregnant.
