Labour signs or Braxton hicks

For the last 6 days I've been having really painfull contractions..they started off as Braxton hicks and gradually gotten stronger! I've now got Period pains to the point where i could cry i cant get comftable sat down or even stood up i went to the hospital yesterday to get checked over they put me on the monitor and it was picking up contractions they checked my cervix but they said it was still shut! I really don't no what else to do has anyone got any tips to get my baby moving or will I have to wait till he decides to come him self I'm in agony but the hospital won't do absolutly anything untill I'm in active labour
