Elimination communication

Jessica

I really want to share this idea with new mom's. I did my research on it while I was pregnant with my son and really wanted to try it since I'm a new stay at home mom. The basic idea behind elimination communication is to pick up on cues from your baby when they have to go the bathroom, it's just like how you pick up cues when they're hungry, tired, etc..There are still countries where diapers are consider a "luxury" item. This form of communication has been practiced for centuries and continues to happen all over the world. Eventually you will get to point where you're comfortable going diaper free as they will alert you of their need to eliminate. It's not necessary used to potty train but most babies are completely potty trained anywhere from 12-18months when done full-time.

My boy just turned 2 months yesterday and I have been practicing this for over a week. I waited to start as routines settled and the healing of my c section. As of today (11:30am) I've managed to catch all of his pees besides one and a poop. I did miss a communication while on the phone, I didn't give him enough time over the potty to pee. Yesterday he woke mid nap to alert me of his need to use the bathroom, we caught it and I put him right back down. I'm truly amazing at how quickly he has picked this up.

I had to share this "crazy" idea with you all. My whole family thought I was nut when talking about it while pregnant. But as mammals we all have the need to want to be clean, naturally. No one wants to soil themselves. The babies pick up on this and know you are trying to help them. My son gets so excited when he goes on the big potty.
