Would you meet your SO Side of the Family that they been Abused by?

So, me and my boyfriend have been talking about him finally meeting my dad side of the family. But he doesn't want to because my dad side physically and emotionally abused me. But we both scared on how it will go.. Any Advice? 😭

Don't feel obligated to interact with that side of the family just because it's family. If he doesn't want to meet them then that's his choice, don't force it.

Isn't this Your family and your boyfriend doesn't want to meet them?

I've learned the hard way to be stricter with who I define as "family" and the abusive people in my life are no longer my family. I might see them sometimes even, but they aren't my family.

That being said, I personally believe you need to think about what is healthiest for You and he should respect that. If your dad is abusive he doesn't deserve to know anything about your life or who you are with, so if you chose to introduce them it should be because it's what You want.

So ask yourself, what will make me happiest? What is healthiest for Me? If you think it would be healthy for him to meet your boyfriend, express to your boyfriend that it matters to You and it doesn't matter what your dad thinks/does because your boyfriends role is to be your support. If you think it will just cause problems then don't do it.

Ask yourself what will bring you peace and do that, your boyfriend needs to follow your lead on this. I call the shots with who I allow in my life and my husband supports that. He know if I see my dad or invite him to something it's because it's what I want so he's respectful of my wishes. Though I think he'd punch my dad if I'd never find out, but he knows I don't want to give anymore energy to him.
