Advice please...tmi

Ok we are ttc our first and i am on cd 57, light spotting for a week and a half that lasted until cd 50 (only enough to see when wipe) all hpt are bfn! I was called for a smear test and went today, when I was there the nurse advised she hadn't done the smear properly as my external os (opening of the cervix) was slightly open. Did another hpt that came back negative. I usually have AF on or around the 8th of each month and completely missed May cycle. The nurse said that reasons for an open os is either pregnancy, a miscarrage or already had a baby. Has anyone had this experience before? Or got any advice?
