Reduced jail time?

Question

A woman is killed by a driver.  The crash occurs midday.  There were reports of the driver swerving all ove the place.  The driver crashes into a phone poll and a pedestrian goes to render aid.  The belligerent driver then backs up, goes into drive and runs her over-killing the Good Samaritan.

Today we find out the woman (this occurred at midday) was taking ambien.  There is now a debate whether or not the 4 year potential sentence should be reduced.  What are your thoughts?

4 years for driving belligerent and killing someone doesn't seem like enough, whether she was taking ambien or not

Was the woman taking the ambien the driver or the person trying to help? If it was the driver, then I think she should have a longer sentence because she was driving under the influence, and prescriptions like that generally have that on their label.

I've  never  personally taken ambien, and even I know you  are to take it while in bed, to fall asleep within 30 mins  (approx) for the fact you can hallucinate.  This lady was clearly NOT taking it to help improve  her sleep, so in my opinion  she  was driving while intoxicated. Same as if you had alcohol.  She should  be penalized fairly.  Not lessened.

I don't think so. I have personal grievances with ambien, though. I am bias. But it would also depend on a bunch of other factors so it's hard to tell.

I don't agree with jail time for this. 
   
I think the women should never be allowed to drive again or for at least 10 years. I also believe house arrest, with breaks for work, would be appropriate and much more economical to the community.

No the sentence should not be shortened. I know someone who killed 4 people in a car accident. He was stopped in a line of cars at a red light. He was epileptic. He was allowed to drive alone. He had a seizure and hit the car in front of him killing a man and his 3 children. His wife was not in the car and was devistated. He went to jail for several years for vehicular manslaughter. He didn't actually do anything wrong, it was purely an accident. But he had to pay because 4 people lost their lives. He also had a wife and two children that he had to leave alone for a long time because of this tragedy. If he had to do the time for aomething that happened during a medical emergency, than this woman should because she was conscious and under the influence of a drug voluntarily.

My aunt was taking ambien for a few weeks and it caused her to sleep-drive 3 times. The first time, she thought someone stole her car because it was parked in the garage she never uses but it was dented, the second time it was neatly parked 1/2 a block away turned off in drive w the ebrake pulled and locked by her as she left it and the last time she woke up in the walgreens drive thru pharmacy confused aboutbwhere she was and how she got there. In that time span, she also woke up with coulntless strays that she had never seen (shes a big animal lover and had 6 cats & 1 dog) in her house clean and collared (after bathing and collering them) after waking up behind the wheel, she got off of it and i believe she had a lawsuit. She still never foundbout what exactly she hit

I advise all of you screaming "murderer" look up these exact cases of people doing weird shit while on ambien, a prescribed LEGAL medication. A lot of these cases are driving related. If you take a pill your doctor gave uou to sleep, and you do shit like drive or anything under the influence of this PRESCRIBED MEDICATION, you didn't mean to go out and run someone over. This medication needs to be banned, and it pisses me off how I KNOW Xanax works for me and my anxiety/sleep issues, but they said no and tried their best to push ambien on me instead. Hell fucking no. I never have and never will take that shit,
