Is it worth it to take a birthing class?

The one at my hospital cost $115 and is 6.5 hours long. I live in Philadelphia. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Maybe check out what's on YouTube first, and if you feel like you still have questions ask your midwife.

I opted to take the classes because I know my learning style is more suited to a classroom environment, but that's not the case for everyone.

From what I've heard, the most valuable part of the class is he hospital tour. I was going to do the class but I waited too long to sign up and now there are none available until my due date, but I can still do the tour, which is free.

I agree with looking it up on YouTube. But I did notice that it's really about trusting your body and your instincts. Obviously doctors do know what they are doing but you have to trust yourself too and make people listen it will help you be more calm and less stressed which makes it much easier.

My husband and I were both hesitant about the birthing class and the caring for baby and mom class which ran us about 200 total. Both were fantastic! The birthing class was a lot of things I had been reading about online, but it helped prepare my husband for his role, and called hi s anxiety about what may be going on with me during the labor. For me it was goid confirmation that th e stuff I had been reading was reliable and not internet garbage. We joked that the caring class would be a teeny bopper filled how to diaper a baby class, but honestly wevslient 5 min in diapering. It was filled with lots of info as what to expect with both baby and mom in the weeks after delivery, when to make a big deal out of things (fever, rash, etc.) And when it's okay to let things ride out. Both classes were taught by midwives who gave facts from both perspectives as far as meds, trends, and other babying things.

I also think it brought my husband and I closer to each other and to the baby.

If it's your first baby, I would. It's another experience. I did it and I'm glad I did.

My hospital is in philly, too. I decided to just take the free orientation. My thinking is that they will tell me what to do when the time comes!

Didn't do it and I won't do any kind of parenting or birthing class. Didn't do breastfeeding ones either. I had no desire to meet other moms or attend a class like that. Birth hardly goes how we are told or expect anyways. If you want to. Do it. If you don't. Then don't feel pressured or bad.
