Corporal punishment

I have been having a hard time on deciding if I want to use corporal punishment as a way to discipline my son. I feel that it is an outdated method that doesn't really work and I also am a strong believer that no one should put hands on someone unless threatened (I don't believe I will feel threatened by my child). I was wondering what's your opinion on corporal punishment!
