Baby boy named after father
My husband is named Charles. His dad is Charles, and his grandfather was Charles. Doing the whole junior thing is a huge tradition on his side of the family. On mine, not so much. Like at all. And I've never been into the idea. Now that we're pregnant, I know it's going to come up again but I don't know how to tell him I don't want to name the baby Charles. I know it's important to him, but I want our child to have his own identity. If there were a nickname that I liked, it would be different, I suppose. But my husband goes by Chuck, and his dad goes by Charlie. Charles is too formal. I just don't want to have the confusion and redundancy all the time.
How do I nicely tell him I'd rather not continue the trend without being mean, or feeling guilty??
