Okay so I'll be 24weeks Wednesday and on Friday I have my glucose test, the dr gave me the drink to take home he said make it really cold and drink it on the way to the apt. Any pointers on if I should fast that morning, my apt is for 11am. What time should I drink this? Thank girls.

He paper I got with my drink said I could eat but it needed to be 20 minutes between food and the drink and my blood has to be drawn exactly 1 hour after finishing the drink. Also you have 15 minutes to get the whole drink down.

I did one at 13 weeks and the office said it's best when you fast. My doctor said that it isn't necessary. But I also happened to take the test at 8 am so not eating wasn't that difficult for me. Double check with your Dr but I think some eggs or pancakes would be good since your appointment isn't till 11.

My OBGYN last year said it was not necessary to fast however this really depends on your pregnancy and your specific condition. I think you should ask your Dr. about the fasting.

In some cases they want you to, others they don't want you to. Other than that, I recommend having a bottle of water ready to swig afterward because it is sickenly sweet. Tastes like syrup version of Gatorade. They usually want to you stick around for an hour afterward so having a snack with you to be able to eat after an hour would be good. Good luck!

Requirements are different based on your care provider. Some say fast, some don't. Some say you have five minutes to drink it, others say you have ten. Some say you can't walk around after drinking it, some recommend it. Some give a cut off of 140, others use 130. Some allow you to drink water after, others don't. It's ridiculous. There is absolutely no consistency across the country on this.

I'm shocked your doctor didn't give you more instructions. When I had to take my test with my first son 2 years, I was told to fast beginning at midnight.

My appt was at 4pm. I ate cereal like usual for breakfast. I think i was supposed to stop eating and drinking just 2hrs prior to test. Thats what I did. They want you to eat your normal things...test will work better.
Mine went fine.

Recommended to fast but if you need to eat scrambled eggs are your best bet. First glucose test is an hr so if your appt is 11 I'd drink it at 10.00/10.15
