Adoption?

Question

Has anyone on here ever adopted children? Although I'm not at that stage in my life yet, for medical reasons I'm not ever going to have my own biological children. I am however interested in adoption. I was wondering what the process is like? How old were your children when you adopted? If they were babies when/do you tell them? Thanks for any intel!

I was adopted and I cannot stress enough that if they are to young to know they were adopted, then tell them as soon as they can understand.

My cousin was adopted as a baby. He's always known he was adopted. He was adopted from Russia so the process is a bit different since it was an international adoption. But my boyfriend was a foster kid, there was a point where he could've been adopted but he declined (he was 16/17 at the time). He's still close to his foster family though. Fostering to adopt is fairly common and is often easier than other adoption processes. 
My cousin's marriage ended up falling apart over the lack of kids and trying to adopt was next to impossible for them (they're were on a waiting list for 5 years)- even though they both loved kids, had excellent characteristics references, both are highly paid engineers with a beautiful family-oriented home in a family-oriented neighbourhood. They were considered perfect candidates and still didn't manage to adopt. They can close but had birth parents change their minds last minute and a bunch of other stuff. It was really sad. They split up and after a few years my cousin ended up fostering kids because she at least wanted to help kids. Getting approved to foster was shockingly easy (which is likely why so many foster families are terrible). She's adopted three of her foster kids in the last few years! One was a baby and the others were a set of twins that were 10yrs old at the time. She doesn't foster anymore, but plans to once her kids are grown and out of the house and she has time/money for more kids.

I adopted two children from foster care. I was a foster parent for them first for almost three years before finalizing.

I was adopted as was 5 of my other siblings. I was adopted with my younger brother I was 6.5 and he was 4. I was put in the system at the age of 2. Ended up going back and forth from biological mom and foster homes. So when I came into my adoptive parents home I was only there for 6 months cause after the last home the social worker told my biological mom she needs to sign away her rights.
