Gender Blood testing worth it?

Question

People who have gotten blood testing done and found out the sex of their baby early, what was your experience? Would you have waited to see it on the scan if you could do it over again?

I got it at the behest of my doc, as I am 35. The gender was a bonus. I cared more about the genetics portion.

It's a lot of money to spend on something you could find out in a few extra months/weeks for almost free 🤷🏼‍♀️

I did the gender blood test when I went for my genetic testing. We then had a gender reveal party with our family members that following weekend. I wouldn't change it for the world and definitely wouldn't want to wait until 16-20 weeks to find out. It made me feel much more connected to my baby as well which some might find strange but that's just what happened with me. I'm only 14 weeks now and found out at 10 almost 11 weeks

The cost for me would have been anywhere from $200-$3000 depending on where I was on my deductible for the year. We decided against doing it and held off until the anatomy scan at 20 weeks. I think it worked out better for us because it helped me restrain myself from buying all kinds of cute baby girl or baby boy stuff since I didn't know yet.

I got it done because I was concerned about gender disappointment. I've been really struggling with this pregnancy - it was unplanned and due to failed birth control, and it happened the only time we had sex after our son was born. He was 2 months old when we found out. I really wanted it to be a girl. I thought if it was a girl it would give me something to be excited about, a new adventure, a chance for a mini-me...so I wanted to know gender early because waiting an extra 2.5 months would just give me 2.5 more months to get excited for the idea of a daughter and make me that much more devastated if it ended up being a boy. 
Of course it's a boy. I was disappointed when the nurse called me with my test results, and I still cried a bit after the ultrasound confirmed what the test already told me. But I know it would have been so much worse if I had waited until the 20 week anatomy scan. So I don't regret getting the test done, no.

We did the genetic testing and gender was a  onus but if insurance didn't cover it I wouldn't have paid $900

Most insurances won't cover it but we were dying to know and totally paid for it. For me it was worth the $190 to reveal we were pregnant and the gender at the same time :)
I was also glad we did because my baby's umbilical cord was in the way at my 16w scan so we couldn't see what he was. We didn't see boy parts until my 20w anatomy scan.

You can buy an at home blood test through Sneek Peak test online. They send you all you need and you send it back to them which is also provided for you. I've done it twice at 9 weeks and it was accurate. I believe it's under $100 bucks which is way cheaper than the one through the hospital.
