Anyone else have/had Trichotillomania?

Please if you have had this include pointers on how to stopped pulling. This in ruining my life.

Try a hairband or rubber band on your wrist and use that to fiddle with or snap yourself with to keep busy. Just the visual reminder of what it represented helped me too. It's hard to explain, but I think it was largely just a mental challenge for me. Struggling with myself in my head not to do it, when I wanted to so badly, but knew when it was over I'd just hate myself. Each time I won that battle, it was such a relief. Such a feeling of victory. So then I went back and forth between winning and losing... until I started winning more often.. and more often... until now it's just once in a blue moon, and I always catch myself before I become entranced. Slap my hand, take a deep breath, and it's over.

I pulled for 11+ years. Slowly stopped after I turned 21?, and had a full head of hair for my wedding when I turned 25. In pregnancy, I'm pulling a little more now :/ if you'd like to talk, you can email me: Taylor@lfmiller.com

My brother had it when he was a teenager. It was related to his anxiety & ADD, and Prozac helped him a lot. My daughter had it in early elementary school. We were expecting our 2nd daughter & she was very anxious about it. She just kind of outgrew it. Don't be afraid to seek professional help. Counseling and/or meds could help you! Good luck!
