supplementing breastmilk?

do you supplement breastmilk with formula? why? and hiw old is your baby?

I do. When I went back to work I only had time to pump once while I was gone and it wasn't enough so we did mixed bottles of 2/3 breastmilk, 1/3 formula.

She had formula before that because emotionally I just needed a break some days and a 4 -6 hour stretch of no nursing. The mommas health needs to be a priority too.

I personally don't but I know a lot of people that do. I woukd be careful thpugh because it will lower your supply unless you are pumping every time you supplement

They told me to when my daughter was first born I did it and that was a huge mistake because she wouldn't latch anymore I guess she was used to the fast flow of the bottle. I spoke with a breastfeeding consultant who recommended dr browns bottles and a dr at her 1st appointment showed me how to get her back latched. She's a month old now and is only fed breast milk

I haven't had to yet, but I have had to supplement with donor milk since going back to work. I pump multiple times t work but I just don't get that much when I pump.

My supply dropped when I went back to work. In order to preserve my freezer stash, I had to wean her onto formula bottles during the day. I still nurse her first thing and last thing though.

I did it with two of mine because they weren't gaining weight. So I supplemented a few times a day for a week or so, while still breastfeeding. Weight came back up and went right back to ebf.

I had to when my daughter was born. She was a pro at latching right away but it became clear she wasn't getting enough because she lost a lot of weight. The hospital only released her after our four day stay because we were going straight to her pediatrician. I'd resisted supplementing up until that point because the hospital ped  was an ass. My ped group was much more calm and supportive but felt she did need supplementation. We tried Enfamil Gentlease, then Nutramigen. Both caused issues because we didn't know about her food allergies at the time. Luckily she thrived and packed on weight when my milk came in so we didn't have to supplement long, right at a month.
