Dogs and kids

So.. I really don't want this to turn into a you're wrong you're right type of conversation. Here's the story..

My friend brought her 1 year old over tonight. We have a 9 year old golden retriever who has never been around kids. This kid is excessively loud and follows the dog around. I have told my friend to please not allow him on the ground until I've put my dog in a room. He has growled at him before. So tonight she brought him over, I had my baby in my arms and said "he growled at him we need to separate them" and she just stood there. Her kid went toward my dog screaming (as children do) with his arms raised and my dog snapped at him.

First of all, as a good pet owner, I should have removed the dog from the situation. However, I said more than once (on the phone even before she came over) that my dog is not comfortable around her child.

My friend is not mad at me at all but I'm starting to get a little nervous for when my baby is crawling/walking. I'm going to find an animal behavioralist I think. I am also not allowing other children around him. He loves our son. Licks him all the time and seems to be protective of me and him. There's no way we are putting him down or giving him up I just wanted to see if anyone else has had a similar situation and what you did. Thanks!!!
