How long do I have to buy gifts for people?

I am the oldest of 4, my youngest sibling is 18, and my husband is the oldest of 3 his youngest sister is 21. With our siblings, parents, in-laws, Mother's and Father's day, Anniversaries we are buying gifts all year long! Christmas not withstanding. The first birthday is late February and the last is early November, and it is stressful and it is getting expensive and I am tired of coming up with all these gifts. On more then one occasion we have not been able to afford gifts for eachother because we are spending our extra money on things for them. We have a daughter of our own with another baby coming in February and we can't keep this up. Espaclly since they don't give anything to us. I hate to sound so materialistic, but we spent $35 on both my mother and mother in law for mother's day and they didn't even tell me happy Mother's day. How long do I have to keep doing this?
