For those that did it with their first love and are still with them to this day, how did you know?

I am talking to an amazing guy right now. He's in the Army and should be back soon. Right now he's in Illinois but he's stationed fairly close. He is an absolute sweetheart, always complimenting me, showing me what he's doing and what he'll be doing for the day. We talk every day and yesterday we were discussing how far we wanted to go. I'm waiting for sex, but I'm not totally opposed to other stuff, like fingering. I wanted to wait for all that till I'm married (Christian). But I've been debating it. Every guy I've thought about doing it with I am no longer talking to. They quit talking to me because I'm waiting. But this guy might be different. I just don't want him to just up and leave if we do it. I don't want to seem like a trophy he's gonna brag about to his friends, making a big deal about how he got a virgin. I want to know I'm his and he's mine. I think that's why waiting until marriage is so important. How did y'all know he wasn't going? So many guys see it as a conquest. I know this sounds so childish and weird. But honestly, what made you know he didn't see sex and your virginity as something to win?
