i dont see how you can trust someone if your communication is not good. they're not a case of one or other. but I would say the most important thing in a relationship is neither - for me it would be commitment. you can have great communication and trust someone a lot and still give up on them because it's "too hard" or you don't feel as you used to. Genuine willingness to work through anything together is the key.
