Is it normal for both partners to pay rent and groceries?

After being together for 12 years, married for 8 years, what's mine is his and what's his is mine. We have a joint account that our paychecks go into and all bills get paid first, then we both take an equal cash "allowance" to spend on whatever we want each week and the rest goes into savings... We have never argued over money and we make mutual decisions on big purchases... We usually save up our "allowance" cash to buy gifts for each other on birthdays and holidays so the element of surprise is still there... It works for us.  We have never hid anything from each other and this way we can both have access to accounts to make sure bills get paid on time if one person or the other is busy or forgets.

We split, he pays rent and I pay the bills and food shopping. It adds up to about the same over the course of the month

My husband and I split the bills... so my husband earns more than me so he will pay the larger bills.. I pay for groceries, gas & electric and house tax, he pays for all the other bills. Each couple is different and you have to find a way that suits both of you and that you both agree on ☺️

My husband works and supports us and I cook, clean, do laundry, go shopping, etc. It works fine for us.

Depends on what works for you both!. I'm 35 weeks pregnant and I'm not working right now and don't plan to for at least a year after my daughter is born!

My bf and I are planing on moving in together end of October when my lease is up. We haven't really talked about how the bills will be split up. But I'm figuring that the bills will be split down the middle from rent to bills I'll pay half of everything and he pays half of everything. I figured that's normal and good enough.

We never distinguish between mine and his. Ever since we moved in together 7 years ago we have shared everything and since being married we've had a joint account as well. We discuss all the major financial decisions together.

Common expenses like that come out of the joint account. 
Before we co-mingled money we paid our own expenses. We didn't live together, though. 
I would say if you're co-habitating it should be split, but you can just be it out. Like one person writes the rent check but balance bills at the end of the month and reimburse the person owed.
