How accurate are ultrasounds?

I'm sure this is a dumb question! But when I went in for my first ultrasound I was at 7 weeks according to my last missed period. The doc said the baby was measuring at 6weeks. I know it's only a week difference, but I want to know which one is correct! I do in Thursday for my next appt and ultrasound, should I expect the same result, a baby at 9 weeks rather than 10??

Measurements can be up to a week off that early for ultrasounds. But your due date isn't necessarily based off your last period. It depends on when you ovulated. The ultrasound will be the most accurate. Your next one should determine your due date. Congrats!

my Drs machine is ancient and horrible, but it was right on with my lmp. it depends on ovulation too. as for the next ultrasound it's up in the air. my first consistently measured ahead but within 2 weeks so the date never changed. this one is measuring a few days behind. both babies first ultrasound was right on with my lmp, but growing at different paces.

At my first ultrasound I was supposed to be 6 weeks, baby measured at 4weeks 6 days. Then my second ultrasound I was supposed to be 11 weeks (calculating from 1st ultrasound) baby was measuring in at 13 weeks. Due date jumped from 19 january 2018 to 8 January 2018
