My unexpected birth story
So I was due on July 5th with my first child a stubborn little boy. Week 39 came and was only dilated to 1.5. Week 40 came and no progression and I even ended up going to my week 41 appointment with a scheduled induction the next day and needless to say was still only 1.5 cm dilated. I was getting so annoyed by everyone telling me I need to do *insert labor inducing technique that worked for them* when we tried everything my OB recommended. He just wasn't ready. Woke up July 12th extremely nervous and hardly slept as I was supposed to be induced at 8 am. Called the hospital at 6 am as I was instructed to make sure they had a bed available....annnnnddd they didn't 😒. Told me to call back at 8. Same story. She told me to go about my day and they would call when they had a room. How was I supposed to just go about my day anxiously knowing at any time I could get a call?! Husband was less than displeased about everything. So I went about my morning ate breakfast then about noon husband told me if I didn't hear back to call. I didn't want to, so avoided it. And behold..12:10 in the afternoon came and it literally felt like I peed myself. I always had discharge throughout my entire pregnancy so shrugged it off. But then it filled up the new liner I just replaced. So then I text my friend asking her what she thought as she had her baby 3 months prior and she told me to call L&D.; Then I told my husband I think my water broke. Called L&D; and they told me to come in. And right before I was going to leave, it all started coming out. I had to change all my bottoms and then sit in a towel and did the walk of shame waddling throughout the hospital parking garage and up to the 4th floor dripping amniotic fluid and with a soaked towel between my legs. Seems like it took forever to get into triage. They admitted me shortly after. I think we spent about an Hour and a half I triage just being monitored waiting to go to the delivery room. We got settled at about 3:30 pm. I didn't really feel any contractions until about 7pm. That's when they rechecked me. The midwife said if I wasn't past a 3, I would have to get the foley bulb which I did not want. Luckily I was right at a 3. So an hour later they hooked me up to pitocin. That's when contractions really started to get painful. I was trying to hold out as long as possible for the epidural. At 9 pm I was in tears from the contractions and my husband kept asking if he wanted me to get the nurse for pain meds either via IV or just get the epidural. After 10 minutes of him asking me, I finally gave in and said I wanted the epidural. I was scared to get it and felt horrible I didn't really last that long without it. But once I got it it was the best decision I've ever made. The back labor was excruciating on top of the stomach contractions. At 10 pm they checked me agin, said I had some bloody show, and I was at a 5. I'm pretty sure I fell asleep sometime in between here because I just then remember waking up to immense pressure like I had to poop and it kept coming and going. I had no idea what was happening and pressed the button to have more epidural meds delivered into my IV. But it wasn't working. My MiL was there so I had her go get the nurse and I told her what I was feeling and she said she would get the midwife and see if she wanted to check me again but it's good to feel pressure. Ha I thought. It literally felt like it took forever for them to come back. She came back around 2 am and checked me and said I was fully dilated. Husband was literally in zombie mode as he had to leave the hospital at 3:20 to go to class(he was deployed and they said he could come home if he went to a class and only got Wednesday off since I was scheduled to be induced)2:30 came and I started pushing. That was something else. Lol then my contractions literally stopped coming it felt like so my nurse had to put her hand on my stomach and asked if I felt like one was coming. Baby's head got stuck under my pubic bone. But by 3:10 am July 13th, he was born! I cried as soon as they placed him on me and kept looking over at DH and just kept saying he looks just like you! lol I did tear twice and holy hell is it painful. Then my uterus wasn't contracting back to size and they didn't check until a few hours later. So after I had the painful stitches which I could feel every time he went to insert the needle, they had to go back in and pull tissue out and I swear that lasted for 30 minutes. They already pulled the epidural by this time so they gave me pain meds through my IV, ended up having to get antibiotics via shots in each leg. Annndd then I got sick after multiple times. Couldn't even keep saltines down for 2 minutes. I kind of went in not knowing what to expect but am so happy my baby boy is here and healthy! Since they placed him on my chest he's always been a wide eyed little guy and always trying to hold his head up...Even though he's only 5 days old now love at first sight is definitely real when it comes to your children ❤️
