Placenta eating?

I have heard nothing but good things on this. Where do I start? Do I ask my ob? Or will she think I'm crazy. Help guys!! Lol I'm a ftm

There is zero evidence that it actually helps. A lot of doctors believes it gives women a placebo effect. Also a lot of these "companies" that do it are out of people's homes. They are not regulated and you have no idea what you are actually putting in your body. The freeze drying process is believed to kill most of the good things about the placenta.

You can ask your OB, you can't be the first patient of theirs to wonder about it
My OB office just tells people that there's no data to suggest it helps, but that your own placenta shouldn't make you sick.

I asked mine yesterday lol. She kind of gave me a funny look. She said she was all for it and agrees on the positive outcomes of it..BUT she said she just doesn't like how it's sent off to a place. Not approved, sterilization concerns, handling..all of that. I didn't think about that stuff so it made sense. I was all for the encapsulated pills until she mentioned that

I'm all for doing the healthiest thing for my baby but the thought repulses me. Each to their own but I won't be doing it. I cant bring myself to eat meat that's still rare/pink.

I'm a Birkenstock wearing, granola making Northern California type and I think the whole thing is totally crazy! It's almost like I genuinely want to believe in it but I'm just sooooo skeptical of it actually working. Do you have a good resource where I can read up? I believe that the single most important thing to do PP is to eat a plant rich diet with plenty of healthy fats. Good nutrition is the secret to everything. 
Most of my friends who are into it are very much against having it sent out. More of the add a little too a smoothie type... 😜

My dr is very up in latest evidence and is kind of new age granola eating Birkenstock wearing to a degree lol, and he said there's no evidence it works it's all opinion based and he too is uncomfortable with ppl doing from own homes, unsure of sterilization ect, he also said he would not question if I wanted to cook and eat it but he said the process for encapsulation takes a lot of the good stuff out

I asked friends for recommendations on places that offer placenta encapsulation. After I did some research of my own regarding the process, the places' certification, yelp reviews, pros and cons, I asked my doctor. She didn't seem phased by my question at all. Basically she said that there is no scientific evidence that shows it works so it's up to me. All I need to do is to remind them that I'm getting this done so they keep the placenta. Basically I'm adding it to my birth plan. I had a long conversation with the lady who will be doing this for me and she answered all of my questions. The place I'm going with requires blood work that shows you don't have HIV or hep. They also only handle 1 placenta at a time. They come to the hospital to pick it up no matter what time of day. Make sure whoever you hire makes you feel comfortable, is knowledgeable and certified. If you can find someone through a recommendation, even better. Ask as many questions as you can think of.
