New to tampons

So I'm 26 and have used tampons on the odd occasion but I do very much like my pads lol I started my first off pill period today after 10-11 years and it's really not much fun at all. I bought tampons with applicators this afternoon to try because I've got really short fingers and I have a lot of trouble getting it high enough, or seem to. My question is, even if you've put it in properly can you still slightly feel it? It took me 3 goes to get one in properly or so I thought until I sat on the couch and can feel it a little bit but it doesn't hurt. Thank you ^_^
