No ultrasound at all?

Question

My doctor says it isn't necessary to perform an ultrasound until 18 weeks (I'm 10 weeks and 6 days) but I was wondering if this is normal I see a lot of people getting them at 11 and 12 weeks and sometimes earlier

You at least should have one at 8-10 weeks to confirm the baby is where it should be and for a heart beat. I would demand an ultrasound

You don't need one until 20 weeks really. My doctor has the same policy. My FIL is a doctor for high risk pregnancies and said the same thing. As long as there's no reason to suspect anything is wrong, you don't need one. They can hear the heartbeat with a Doppler at like 10 weeks (that's what they did for my appointment).

It's not technically necessary, but it is standard practice to do an ultrasound at 8-12 to confirm due dates, number of babies, etc. I'd suggest a different doc since this seems really outside the norm.

I feel like that's quite odd, I would expect at least one early one at 8-12 weeks just to confirm pregnancy/heartbeat. I'm in Australia and unless something changes by the end of this pregnancy I'll have had a minimum of 7 ultrasounds.

That's odd. They normally do one around 8-10  weeks to look for the sac and also to see if they can hear the heartbeat. You should visit a different doctor

I would see another OB, I find it weird for them to not want an ultrasound between 8-10 weeks. I  would demand one to make sure everything is starting  out healthy.  My first ultrasound they discovered my cervix was small.  And I have 5 since, I am 35 weeks now. I  was told 9 wks 18-20wks and 26-30 weeks was the norm...

Most drs do an ultrasound at 7-8 weeks called a dating scan where they set your due date  based on size of the baby then. I had mine when i thought i was 7 weeks but turned out i was 8.5 weeks. You can look into elective ultrasounds or buy a fetal doppler. Id go insane not seeing my baby for 18 weeks.

I think it's pretty standard to have one for dating and again around 20 weeks for anatomy. A lot of people get a NT scan around 12 but not all insurance covers that.

I would at least make sure he baby was ok. My mom apparently didn't want any ultrasounds and she had no clue what I was till I came out.
