Cry it out method?

How do you feel about letting babies just cry it out? Why or why not?

I did it at like 8 months old to get her to sleep all night it was seriously the hardest thing I have done as a parent. I felt so so bad. But after 4 days (nights) she slept all thu it without crying. She is now 4 and still loves me :) and sleeps like a champ!  She has always slept in her own bed and all night!  So I guess if you can hang with it it works :). For sleeping atleast

It depends on their age and how long you let them cry. We did the cry it out method but stuck with a schedule. We would go into her room in increments and it never got to be too long. We tried other things and this is what worked best for us. She goes to bed without a fight, doesn't have to be sleeping before I leave her room and can self soothe. She sleeps well and I happy when she wakes up. The only time I don't agree with letting them cry is if you put them in a crib and just let them cry without a schedule or plan

I would never practice it. When my child needs me I'm there.

I did it with my 1 year old because he was getting up every two hours to eat, finally I just let him cry. (It was so hard for me) he ended up falling back asleep after crying for 10-15 minutes. It lasted two nights and now he sleeps through the night :) all 12 hours! But I waited till he was 1, because any age under that didn't seem right to me.

I would NEVER purposely teach my child that if they want or need me that I will be unavailable to them.

As babies? Absolutely not. When they get a bit older, then yes. They have to learn to self soothe.

If you coddle your child every single time they will never become their own person. Letting them cry it out isn't going to hurt them unless that's all you do. Then you should stop that and take care of them.

My mother did this to me. I don't even remember it. Left no emotional damage, and I still love my mom.

I was probably a year - year and a half. I refused to sleep. So she let me cry until I fell asleep. It wasn't easy for her, but she did it. And I would do it to my kids if they refuse to go to bed. My mother believed I needed to learn to self soothe, and I believe the same.

Using the cry it out method, at any age, throws your child down the road of childhood emotional neglect.
Babies and children cry for a reason. Sometimes we don't understand it and they dont either, but that doesn't mean that we should leave them to fend for themselves. 
My daughter is almost 21 months. She is high needs(spirited, extra fussy) she scream cried for months and she still wakes up at least twice a night.
We bed share, breastfeed and believe in gentle parenting and the wait it out method of sleep training. She won't be like this forever and when things change I know I will miss it. <3
