When can babies eat real food?

If I mashed up any organic foods what is the earliest I can feed it to my baby?

I agree with pcosmom! We actually skipped rice cereal all together. Food before one is just for fun! .......I've been doing the purées with my 6 month old once a day but will probably get more and more into baby led weaning as he can sit unassisted and I feel comfortable so that he can just eat what we eat!
