Does your cat poop inside or outside

Question

My FIL is telling me im weird for still letting my cats use the litter tray indoors. They are not even 1 yet. Am i weird or should I train them to poop outside?  (I just think that at least in a litter tray I can tip it into a bag, but outside it will be everywhere, in the grass , I'll have to pick it up etc ?) He made me feel really bad for letting them still poo inside saying that I wasn't training them properly

When I was growing up I was told animals stayed outside. We always had cats and dogs around. As an adult having my own home I've had a cat that I kept strictly inside due to the fact  the road was right in front of our house and our yard wasn't even two feet wide. We had him since he was a little kitten, he didn't even know how to go outside & back in without probably getting ran over. Some people don't even have that option. 🤷🏻‍♀️

As a vet I'll tell you that the majority of cats live indoors and do not go outside at all. Indoor cats and primarily indoor cats have less issues with parasites and certain diseases. They're more likely to live longer as well. Also, being indoors prevents the cats from harming the ecosystem- cats are very bad for that. 
You're doing nothing wrong at all. I professionally recommend that cats be kept indoors and if they go outside they should be supervised so they're not killing birds, etc. The only time I'd say differently is if you're talking about barn cats since they're needed to help control the mouse population in the barn- but they tend to have pretty short life spans. Plus if they're litter trained is a lot more likely for owners to notice if there's a problem since many diseases/infections show symptoms as changes in urine and fecal output.

I have 14 cats, they all can climb up and out of the cat window and go outside to do their business, but we still have a liter box for the kittens, and for winter, when it's too cold and the ground is frozen and they can't go outside to go to the bathroom. Most people always have a litter box for their cats no matter what though
