Would you consider saying BBW (big beautiful woman) to be body shaming?

So I see BBW thrown around a lot. I use it as well. It wasn't until recently have I try to refrain from using it as much as possible, just to avoid the body shaming accusations. Sometimes I feel like I may possibly offend someone Unintentionally but wouldn't calling someone obese be more offensive that BBW?

I never really used it because I’ve always thought it was a creepy thing to say, but I can see how someone would take offense. It’s like a back handed compliment.

I've been referred to as BBW before.  I wouldn't say it's offensive,  but why not just call me beautiful?  Why does my size need to be a defining feature of mine?

I mean it's a weird compliment. Why not just call them beautiful and leave it at that!? 
But I've only heard it in real life with thicker girls referring to themselves as that as part of the body posi movement. I think that's fine!

unless it comes from the woman herself I think it's a form of body shaming, your picking up on her weight instead of just saying she's beautiful, it's like saying 'your gorgeous for a big girl' you wouldn't say wow she's a cute skinny girl or wow your a lush skinny woman, it's not something you hear as a compliment so why say it to a bigger woman?

I have no reason to say it and I'm not big so I can't really say if its offensive or not. I mean, I kind of am big at the moment because of pregnancy, but you know.

Body shaming is when you say something badly about a fat person being "too" fat or a skinny person being "too" skinny. I would consider being called a BBW a compliment.

Not at all.  The term was first coined in 1979  with the launch of BBW magazine which was a lifestyle and fashion magazine for plus sized women. It's roots are in body positivity, not shaming. I'd honestly rather be referred to as BBW instead of plus sized.

I never really found it offensive, I do get uncomfortable being complimented on my body though. I don’t know why but people complimenting me in general sometimes makes me uncomfortable anyway.
