Cat owners - do you let your cat go outside?

Please explain your answer in the comments! Why do you/don't you let them out?

Only supervised and for maybe 5 minutes. I've never liked the idea of outside cats, it worries me and people are careless and cruel. I wouldn't want my furbaby being a target of these kinds of people.

I'm not going to let my kitten outside freely. 1. We have a really busy street in front of our house with reckless drivers who don't even stop at the stop sign half the time, let alone avoid hitting her. She does want to be out there though so I'm going to get her a harness with a leash and let her explore that way with her "attached" to me. A minute up the road is a little lake with a path so I'm going to take her on there too while I get some walking exercises but don't know when I should start because she is still very little and i can't even find a collar that fits her let alone a harness that will be good until her adulthood.

My cat has been going outside since he was a kitten, he pretty much knows his way round my street and whenever he wants to come in he meows outside my kitchen window lol, he's pretty good though I used to be terrified of letting him out when he was just a kitten cause I was scared he would run away but luckily he always came back, I had another kitten who wouldn't step foot outside tho we'd take her out but she would run back in, I guess some animals prefer to be indoors and some prefer to be outdoors

I've had cats all my life and always let them go outside. I don't live next to a busy road and they normally prefer to stay in gardens anyway. Plus I don't want my house stinking of litter trays 😂

Our cat was found as a kitten with his mother during winter time. His mother was taken to the vet, spayed, and then released because she was feral. There was no way around it. Our kitten, however, was very very young so living in a home would be no problem. He is a house cat through and through. We don't let him out for many reasons: 1. He hasn't been outside like when he was found, since we have gotten him. 2. There is a major coyote problem where I live and peoples cats are constantly on missing posters.. 3.  Fleas. Sand fleas everywhere in peoples yards around here. 4. I don't trust anyone with my cat. He's way too gentile and people can be cruel.

It shortens their life span significantly. Plus they destroy the ecosystem around them. I love my cat more than almost anything on this earth so i would legit never forgive myself if he was hurt or killed.

I take mine out on a leash sometimes, he loves it. My parents let their cats go outside freely and I can't stand it. They've had 2 cats not come back home because of it (one definitely died, the other they think was taken in by someone else) and one contracted some illness that killed her.

My parents had my cat declawed against my wishes when I was a teenager and first got her. So I don't let her outside because I worry she wouldn't be able to defend herself. Sometimes I bring her outside in the fenced in yard and supervise her but not often.

My cat is the runt of the litter and was born in the shelter.. she doesn't really have any defense.. she's also very tiny for a cat so I feel like for safety reasons she should be kept inside (plus shes terrified of outside... she went out once when I first got her and a leaf moved and scared the crap out of her... she won't go outside for anything now)
