what is the best way to apply foundation?

Im semi new at makeup, I don't experiment very much and I'm tired of using my fingers. What's the best way to apply it so it doesn't look cakey and is full coverage? (any other tips are welcome as well)

Use a primer (baby skin is a good drugstore one and Mac prep and prime I use on most clients). Get yourself a beauty blender or a real techniques miracle complexion sponge, wet it with water and squeeze the water out so it is damp not really wet and sort of press the foundation into your skin. If you use concealer set the concealer with powder (pressed or loose) but do not set the foundation because that could be what is making the foundation  look cakey on the skin.

I use a stipple brush, I've tried with flat top foundation brush and I personally think it leaves it all streaky, I also don't like beauty blenders, personally I think they're crap and just absorb the makeup instead of going on the face.

I use almay self tanner foundation blah blah blah bullshit idk, & I rub it in kinda like lotion & then use a beauty blender to blend the lines & what not. I feel like if I apply the product w a beauty blender it soaks most of it up🙄 real techniques beauty blender is the best tho.

I tried so many different things and currently I'm loving this company. Their miracle completion sponge is the best sponge I've tried so far. Try it wet (squeeze out the water) makes the foundation look so much more natural on the skin. If you like to use a brush more for foundation their base brush (the big one in this set) is amazing too. You can get it super cheep in Walmart, sometimes Marshalls or Ross has their sets on sale. This specific set is great for foundation. I got it for like 10$ at Ross. In my opinion it's really great quality. I'm not an expert but I would definitely recommend that sponge. They sell it separately too.

I use a kabuki brush, it's a short fat brush, and you can get them for pretty cheap just about anywhere too, it works pretty good at evenly spreading and blending out your face

You could also try a beauty blender, there's all kinds of cheap off brand ones that work just as good as the expensive ones
