Miscarriage - ultrasound needed?

Hi ladies, 
I had a miscarriage about a week ago, was 5,5 weeks and bled for about a week. I had some painful cramps in my right ovary last night and wonder if I actually need an ultrasound after a miscarriage or whether this is not always necessary, just to check if it's all good? What is normal procedure? 
I had a cyst on my right ovary which was removed last year.

I got pregnant the first time we had sex after my miscarriage. The cramps you are explaining sound like you ovulated. You may notice them more since you are on watch for any pain since your miscarriage. When I ovulate whichever side I ovulate from I get cramps right around my ovary.

Seems like it would be up to you and your doctor. I never had any follow up tests or ultrasound, just monitored bleeding etc, which was fine with my doctor.

they check my labs once a week until down to 12 .. I didn't get any other ultrasounds

I'd definitely go to the doctor just to make sure everything passed. I'm sorry for your loss.

If you don't have any more bleeding or spotting you are probably good. But ultrasounds are a good idea to make sure there isn't any retained tissue left.
