Student loans advice?

Jo

Im graduating from college in December which means I'll have to start paying my loans around June 2018 if I don't end up having to default and all that.

I'm getting ready to start a volunteer position with a really great organization and I'm hoping that maybe one day I can move into a paid position.

My degrees are criminal justice and police studies but I really want to work with juveniles and this organization is going to point me in the right path I think...

I also just got married and my husband and I really want to get out of the neighborhood we're in and look at buying houses when my loans are paid off or decently close to being paid off.

At his job he makes $11 an hour, 40 hours a week with some more possible with overtime. I figured I could work there 2 years or so (or less if I get a job with the organization) and have a decent amount of my loans paid off. I'll also get promoted fairly quick because I have a degree which means more money. But that means I'll be working somewhere that has nothing to do with what I went to school for or what I really want to do.

However, I was thinking I could work that job while volunteering at the other place while I'm working my way into a real position in the organization to have a steady income and pay off my debts.

I want a real home and a family and getting my finances straight has to come before those can be possible. Have any of you done anything similar to what I'm thinking of doing? I just don't want to be paying this debt off forever and if I can get a decent sized chunk off my back now then I can move on with my life with a little less of a burden.
