A guy my husband is friends with is in a polyamorous relationship. Seems to be enjoying himself... but what man wouldn't love sleeping with two strippers at once?

I prefer open relationships. (Meaning my partner and I both have permission to sleep with other people) my only requirement for that is that I want to know who it was with and when, and they also need to get STD tested regularly. 
I have also been in a polyamorous relationship. It was long distance (the girl I was dating had a fiancé who lived with her and I was in another city) I was invited to come live with them but we ended up breaking things off. So I never really got to fully experience that type of relationship. It was cool while it lasted though 🤷🏻‍♀️ had no issues.

I'm asking this question because I've been exploring this lifestyle for almost a year now. I'm not sure what label I'd fall under.. but I'm wondering if maybe it's not as uncommon as I think. So far all its amounted to: 1 relationship where he did his thing and I did mine. Now, in my 2nd relationship, it's slightly more complicated and I am having trouble navigating my way. He was away for quite some time and was in a long distance relationship with a woman who stood by him through hard times for 2.5 years. Her kids call him daddy. After a rough patch in their relationship- she left & in her mind it was just for space and she fully intended to come home. In his mind-it was the final straw and they were done for good. A week later-we meet> instant chemistry and sparks fly; feels like the stars aligned as we're weirdly compatible. A week in-he finds out his "ex" is in jail. I can empathize with his situation entirely, as my last relationship was with an incarcerated man- I understand there's still a lot to resolve- he's still got love for her, the kids, he promised to marry her, she stood by him- so he feels he owes her at least that much in return. She is adjusting to acceptance of my presence in his life. She is willing to try to make something work. The catch: she gets his last name..why am I so torn up about that one detail?? Anyone ever dealt with a similar situation?
