Pregnancy and sushi cravings?

So one of my cravings are sushi!!!! But problem is I want spicy tuna roll. What are the guidelines on tuna and sushi alone? I'm praying I can have some! I know if it's cooked, it should be fine right?

The doctors & midwives at my OB practice say some sushi is just fine. As long as it's from a reputable place and in moderation. Obviously check with your doc but there are tons of articles out there about how sushi from time to time is ok.

If it's cooked your fine. You cannot have a lot of tuna but I think you can have like 6 oz a week or something

You can have sushi. Even raw. If it is from a reputable place. My cousin and I go a few times a month. We are both pregnant. My OB says it's okay. And my midwife has even gone with us. Just don't buy it from like the grocery store or something. But as long as it's truly fresh you're fine

I believe the rule of thumb is no raw seafood. And to try and stay away from any seafood that is high in mercury. Tuna is high in mercury. I think most doctors would advise against eating any raw sushi and especially tuna. You could always call and chat with the nurse on call or your doctor. Each practitioner seems to differ on how cautious they are, so maybe yours would say a roll or two would be ok?!

You never know, even at reputable place, if fish is contaminated with viruses, bacteria or warms. During pregnancy those are very dangerous to the baby

The issue with Tuna in pregnancy is mercury. I eat sushi in all my pregnancies but I stick to the vegetarian or sashimi salmon as the bacterium dangerous during pregnancy is not commonly associated with raw fish, I only from high quality establishments though.

So I was told that you have to worry about cross contamination. So go to a place that will clean the tools before preparing your food.

I've been satisfying my spicy tuna roll cravings with spicy California rolls. My doctor just said I can't have any sushi with raw fish on it, but I can have it cooked or with crab.
