Is lunch meat ok?

Question

My dr never told me not to eat lunch meat (currently 9w3d). I've ate a bologna sandwich probably about 2-3 times since I found out. Now I'm hearing from everyone that I can't eat it due to listeria. Do you think I will be fine since I just ate a sandwich? Obviously I won't eat it anymore. But now people have me stressing.

Yep, just cook it first. If you go to Subway, have them toast the sub. I zap mine in the microwave (meat only) before making a sandwich. I don't like it warm, but that's the only safe way to do it.

My prenatal nurse advised me to have my lunch meat heated up to kill all the bacteria prior to eating it!

The odds of any individual sandwich being contaminated with listeria is quite low, but if you get unlucky, the consequences are dire. This is why doctors tell you to avoid all kinds of foods and lots of women will counter that they've eaten all kinds of lunch meat and never gotten sick. They are both right, but the doctors are wiser. Microwave your lunch meat until it is steaming hot.

I was told by my obgyn that it's one of those things that some people say it's okay and some don't.  But people have been eating raw lunch meat for years upon years . So I would say to be completely safe Starr cooking it first.
