Would you get arrested?

Question

So some kid, like 12 or 13 years old tried to set my hoodie on fire as I walked past him. No I did not know him. My question is if I didn't ignore my desire to beat this kid, would I be arrested?

You cannot beat up a child, how do you not know this. 
You report it to the police and get on with your day.

As a rule of thumb... unless someone is actively, and physically, touching you in any way, whether it's hitting, pushing or shoving, grabbing, slapping, pinching... you do not have the right to lay your hands on them. Like, if they call you a name and you go and punch them in the face, you're more than likely to be arrested. You can't claim self defense either, because they never touched you. They just called you a name. That's not self defense. This kid, tried to set your hoodie on fire. He literally touched you, and set your hoodie on fire, which very well could have killed you. You had every right to defend yourself and if he ever tries to do it again, you have every right to defend yourself. It was an attack on your life, on your safety, and it could have caused you bodily harm. You could definitely claim self defense and more than likely, he'd be the one going to jail. But since you didn't defend yourself before, you need to focus on calling the police, filing a report, and pressing charges. I'm pretty sure it would be considered assault and battery. Arsen maybe??? I don't know... But, you deserve some justice out of all this sweetie! Don't go looking to get back at him or anything. Just let the police handle it. If it happens again, defend yourself!

If it were in the moment, probably not. Or you would have been then charges dropped later on after your mugshot was posted and then re-posted over Facebook. But you can't go back and find him and beat his ass now.
