Am I still protected on the placebo pill?

I started my period 5 or 4 days before my placebo pill (this is my first month on bc) at I still protected on the placebo pills and if so how?

Over the month the actual pills you are taking kind of build up a storage of hormones in your system, my doctor told me I would be fine during placebo week because your body uses the hormones already in your body to prevent pregnancy. In addition, during your period or withdrawal bleeding, sperm can't get around as fast or as well because of the blood so it's harder to get pregnant anyway.
