Ft. Lewis??

Question

My husband just got orders, that we are moving to Ft. Lewis, WA in August 2018. We'll be moving from Ft. Stewart/ Hinesville, GA. Anyone from the Ft. Lewis area or have been there before?
Any advice on housing, should we live on post or off, or anything about the area would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance ❤️

My husband and I have been here since July '16 and we are ready to move. We love the south. Make sure to go hiking! That's one of the only things we love about here. We live on post and it sucks, the company that owns on post housing is a joke. Look for somewhere off list. But be prepared, traffic here is terrible!

We are stationed at Ft. Lewis, but I️’m also born and bred in Washington. My biggest advice is to live where you’re comfortable. If y’all like the city life, live up north - but stay out of Lakewood (or LakeHOOD as it’s commonly known by), most parts of Tacoma, and spanaway. If y’all like the suburbs, lacey, Olympia, and DuPont are great. If y’all are more comfortable in the country, look in Yelm - it’s a little further of a drive, but WELL worth every minute.
Let me know if y’all are looking for any other kinds of advice about the area.. it’s a beautiful place, but you’ll definitely need to “know” somebody to get the most out of it.

My husband is stationed here at JBLM and we love it! We don't live on base, we live in Lacey WA. It is about 15 mins from base and it is a very nice town with everything less than 5 mins away! 😊

I'm stationed in Ft Lewis right now, we live off post in university place. It is very beautiful and kinda pricey but you get what you put in so it's worth it.

I just got stationed here at JBLM. It's really nice. I've heard the on-post housing sucks. I currently live in the barracks till I finish paper work with my marriage. 
Other than that it's a nice place. If y'all are adventurous and love do do stuff, there are close by places to visit.

I just left Ft.Lewis. It's a joint base so you might live on McCord. Housing on Lewis SUCKS. If anything, try and get put on McCord.
