bedtime routine for 7 week old?

people keep asking me what time my 7 week old goes to bed and I'm like 'she's 7 weeks, she sleeps and feeds when she wants'. there's no structure really. we work around her. I dim the lights after her feed around 8-10pm and have recently tried putting her in her crib to get herself to sleep so she doesn't keep sleeping on me only. what else am I meant to be doing? does anyone else's 7 week old have a bedtime routine?

My son didn't have a bedtime routine until about 4 months. I started it beforehand, but it was pretty obvious he wasn't quite ready for a routine. It can take some babies a while to sleep through the night, but some start early.

Ours has always been very short and sweet. Jammies on in her room we go and heat up her bottle and she eats while we sit, she falls asleep on my chest and I transfer her into her crib after keeping her upright for a half hour. Has been this way since about a month old and she sleeps like a champ! She knows jammies and a bottle in the dimmed lights means bedtime. Don't worry about having to have this long routine just be consistent and they know! We do a bath every day but I don't consider it bedtime routine because she gets a bottle after it and still another one before bed.

Honestly our 7 week old sometimes stayed up until 12 am but usually layed down by 10 pm; I fed him when he wanted and allowed him to sleep when he wanted. Now at 14 months or 1 year 2 months he is down to one nap and goes to bed around 5 or 6 pm depending on the day he has had and he wakes up between 6 am - 7 am. We are aiming for 7 pm by 24 months or 2 years. He has been a wonderful sleeper since birth though, rarely waking for bubbas through the night but he sure does make up for it through the day.

Some will tell you babies don't need a routine at that age some will tell you they do. I personally started a bedtime routine right from day 1. There are so many horrible sleep habits that parents get stuck in and I really didn't want to have to retrain my child months down the road. 
Our bedtime routine starts around 7:30 with bath time. We do a bath every other night. I'll give her a warm bath with lavender body wash to keep the atmosphere calm. I think her shampoo is lavender scented as well. Once her bath is done I bring her into the nursery to change her for bed. I also use a lavender scented lotion to moisturize her skin. I then wrap her up in a velcro swaddle so bring her into our bedroom to feed her. While I'm doing her bath and everything, my husband is usually closing down the house and preparing her bottles for the night. We like to premake everything so it's easier if she were to wake up (although she's been sleeping through the night since she was 5 weeks old so it's rare we need a bottle premade). I feed her in bed with the lights off so that she's calm and sleepy by the end of her bottle. I then burp her and hold her for a few minutes to ensure that she's sleepy before putting her down. She's usually out within 5 minutes. 
We make sure that bedtime is different from nap time so that she knows the difference. For example, she's only swaddled at bedtime. Nap times are in the living room, lights on, noisy and in her DockATot. Bedtime is quiet, dark, and in our bedroom in her pack n play. We don't let her sleep on our chests very often and we never let her sleep in something that's constantly in motion like a swing or rocker either. If she falls asleep on me then I move her to her DockATot and if she falls asleep in her rocker then I turn it off. 
Her naps and bedtime routines are the only form of structure we have. Getting her into good sleep habits was very important to us. During the day, it's very relaxed and we just go with the flow. I work around the eat, play, sleep cycle and that's about it. They don't need a daytime routine until later on.

My baby is 8 weeks and he has an amazing sleeping routine. His last feeding will be around 10 or 11pm and he'll wake up again around 2 or 3am and again at 5 or 6am. I am co-sleeping so idk if that has anything to do with it but I'm pretty happy with it! 😁😁
