Why is the 2nd or 3rd IuI a higher chance than the first?

I keep reading that the first IuI success rate is low but the more you do them (max is usually 3) the higher chance you have. This was our first and I am waiting for Af but I don't think the IuI worked

My first didn't work, & I was convinced that our second was also a failure but surprise! We're due in March 😊

I've done 4 iui's and they didn't work.  Trying again at the end of September. Good luck🤞🏻
