Would you let your daughter (Age 2 - 10) take part in your home birth?

Just curious to see what women think of young daughters participating! No clue on hospital standards so I just made it a home birth question.

Absolutely. Birth is a beautiful process, and children should be able to witness it. It's NOT inappropriate or wrong, it's an incredible experience to be able to watch a life come into this world.

I think this is a very personal decision. it depends a lot on the girl's interests, her maturity level, how well you have prepared her for what is going to happen, and the norms and values you want for your family. In some cultures, this will be completely normal. In others, not so much. But there is nothing inherently wrong with it. Birth is beautiful.

My daughter was 5 when her sister was born and she was in the hospital room for the whole thing! She held my head and wiped my forehead in between contractions. When the baby was delivered she sang her happy birthday and cried happy tears with us all! It was a wonderful experience! Our hospital had classes for the children to take to make sure they are prepared for the experience!

Older than 10 yes but younger no. They don't really understand what is going on that young. It could scar them for life, give them bad nightmares etc. they can show as much interest as they like but it wouldn't change my mind. All little kids are interested but birth is gory.

My nephew asked if he could be there for his brother's birth 5 years ago. He was 9 at the time. He was next to her while she labored in the bathtub for about an hour. He then turned to her with the saddest eyes and said "Can I go upstairs? It hurts that I can't help make you feel better." It was the sweetest thing. Your daughter might be excited at first and then change her mind when she's in that situation. Just be prepared for both.

I wouldn't do a home birth. But if she seemed interested, I'd let her be around and leave it up to her if she wanted to continue to be there.
