Down syndrome blood test?

I'm 16 years old and 11 weeks 2 days pregnant and at 13 weeks 1 day is my next ultrasound. My baby daddy's mother is insisting I get the blood test and I'm okay with getting it done, but how worried do I need to be about it if I don't have any Down syndrome in his or my family?

Down's syndrome isn't genetic

It's always a good idea to get them done so that your provider and yourself can be prepared for anything that may be wrong. however, if you don't feel comfortable doing it, don't let anyone pressure you into doing something you don't feel is right for you. Good luck. 👍🏼

At your age if the NT scan came back normal personally I would say there's no need for the blood test.

it isnt genetic doesnt matter if it doesnt run in eother family it can still happen

I have no family history of cystic fibrosis, and I have a big family. Yet, I found out that I'm a carrier of the cystic fibrosis mutation gene. Luckily, my husband got tested, and he's not a carrier so our baby won't have it. I also did the Trisomy testing as well, luckily my baby came back low risk for everything. The added plus is you get to find out the sex with the test. I'm having a girl. 💖🎀

down syndrome can affect babies with no past down syndrome in their family history. chances are lower of course,  but still very possible. it's just a blood test. u can choose to not do it. especially if the NT scan ultrasound came back normal
