Would you switch Providers? ....

Andrea

Hi Ladies -

In a previous post I mentioned that I am in my 2nd trimester and my Ob does not do ultrasounds until 20 weeks. Of course I was disappointed but have moved on from being upset. We did get to hear babies heartbeat today and at least we know baby is alive and well. I am happy at least got something.

I am struggling with a decision to switch providers because my Ob is very very clinical. She asked me (because I am 35) if I saw a specialist she recommended for high risk pregnancies and when I told her "we decided against it because having genetic testing and extra tests would only cause undue worry and stress for us"....she seemed very annoyed and even had a bit of a condescending smirk that made me feel uncomfortable.

(I don't see a reason for "high risk" testing just because I am one year older than the recommended age to be pregnant. Of course if they found something "off" I would be okay with seeing a specialists but not just because of my age.)

This is so different from my experience last time with a midwife. My midwife made me feel so special all through my pregnancy and sadly this time I am feeling like just a number in the crowd.

I am struggling with the decision though because when it comes to a good doctor/midwife -being nice does not always cut the mustard and maybe I shouldn't expect my Ob to be overly friendly like my last midwife was. I did locate my last midwife and she works a town over (30 min drive). It is still early enough that I can switch.

What are your thoughts on this situation? Would you switch?
