Was your upbringing more family success focused or individual success focused?

In other words, did your family depend on you for survival (or as part of getting by) and was it essentially expected of you to help them, OR was it a priority for you to find success and your family supported whatever it took to get you there?

I had to support my family. I'm the third oldest, (older sister of 3 years and my twin brother is older by 7 hours lmao). My older sister never did anything for the family, and my mom never asked her too. She never asked my brother too either. But me? Oh she expected EVERYTHING of me. I was the one she verbally and physically abused constantly, I was the one that she wanted to pay the bills and pay rent at 16 etc or else she'd kick me out if I didn't bring home money for her. When I left at 18 to go to college she "disowned me" (she got over it for the most part a year later), despite the fact she has married an ex-marine and was living off his money now, she still wanted my money as well.

Both, i guess. We were told to find success individually, but to always help family when they need it (not necessarily financially)
I grew up with ~10 family members living under one roof at any given time. If anyone had hard times they were welcomed, but encouraged and helped to get back on their feet.

My job growing up was to make good grades and have fun.
I've very blessed that my parents supported me in everything I wanted. They never needed or expected me to give back financially. 
I plan to do the same for my children.

I guess I was lucky in the sense that my family pushed for my individual success and would do anything in their power to help get me there. They don't need my success to help them and wouldn't accept it anyways. Like they literally don't like us grabbing the check ever even if it's something as small as going out for dinner, let alone helping to support our family.

i voted individual success , but i should've said both . my parents always preached to me that they wanted me to grow up and become better than them . my dad told me he would feel like a failure if i didn't succeed in life . BUT , if my little sister needed ANYTHING i would spend my last for her . my sister is spoiled rotten bc of this . my parents don't really buy her anything , so she comes to me 😂 i'll spend $140000000 on my baby sister if i had it . and my parents never told me to NOT help supoort her , so i'm gonna say both .

I had to support myself and my little sister from th age of 6. I've always taken care of myself. 🤷🏼‍♀️ i don't like when people try to take care of me, it frustrates me because I literally cannot remember a time when someone else has cared for me. So I guess it would kinda be individual?
