Hepatitis B shot - 24 hours after birth?

Can't it wait? Has anyone refused it at birth? Would love to hear experiences.

I'm a mother baby nurse and I have patients refuse it for their baby all the time. some parents don't want it at all, some parents don't want it til the second day and some parents just want it done at their pediatricians office. We give out education about the hep b vaccine and leave it at that. it's not our job as nurses to force you into something or make you feel bad about your choices as a parent. it's our job to make sure you have the proper education.

We did it. As well as vitamin K and TB( I live outside the US in a country where TB is still around).

We refused it and didn't get it until the 6 week vaccinations. Low risk and there was zero chance of my newborn having this disease. I also didn't want her having needles as a brand new little baby. Just seemed a bit full on.

We refused it in the hospital, but had it done at his 2 week appointment with the pediatrician. He had already undergone a circumcision and repair of his tongue tie. I felt like another shot in his first 24 hours of life was a bit much.

Just wondering: why didn't you want your baby to have it right away/at birth?

It can wait. We refused it at birth and had our pediatrician do it instead. We just had to sign a waiver.
